Confirmation

Most Presbyterians are baptized as infants.  Once baptized, they are fully aligned with the church, but they are not yet "official" voting members.  One must be "confirmed" (must make their own profession of faith) to become a "full" member.

At WPC, confirmation class is open to entering 8th graders and older youth who have not been previously confirmed.

Each person who wishes to become confirmed attends a series of classes taught by the Pastor(s).  As part of this class, the person will learn biblical and church history, Presbyterian polity, Reformed theology, the Bible, and worship and sacraments.  He/she has a mentor, a member of the congregation, to help guide him/her through the process.  He/she must write a Statement of Belief.  He/she must meet with and be examined by the Session.

Confirmands join the church in a special Confirmation service, usually held on Easter morning.

Once a person is confirmed, they enjoy all of the rights, privileges, and obligations of full membership. They may vote in church elections and be elected to church offices.
