To join Wimberley Presbyterian Church it is necessary to meet first with one of our Pastors, and then with the Session following worship on the designated Sunday.
One of our Pastors will explain the process of becoming a member, and will review the questions that are posed to each person who wishes to join. You then meet with the Session. The Session hears your brief introduction of yourself, hears your answers to the questions posed by the Pastor, and votes to welcome you into our membership.
New members are received in the Presbyterian Church by one of the following ways:
-
Transfer of Letter. If you are a baptized member in good standing of another Protestant Church, you can join WPC by transfer of letter. The Clerk of our Session will send a letter to your former church asking for the transfer of your membership. This method is most often used when a person is moving from another location and is already a member of a church in the former location.
-
Reaffirmation of Faith. This method is used if you are a baptized Christian, but are not currently active in another church. The procedure is the same, but no letter of transfer is requested.
-
Profession of Faith. This method is used if you have not already been baptized as a Christian. You are asked to profess your faith through a series of questions asked by the Pastor and are then baptized in a worship service.
The questions posed by the Pastor are:
-
Trusting in the gracious mercy of God, do you turn from the ways of sin and renounce evil and its power in the world?
-
Do you turn to Jesus Christ and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour, trusting in His grace and love?
-
Will you strive to be Christ's faithful disciple, obeying His word and showing His love?
New members are given a New Member Packet by the New Member Committee. It contains information on the programs of the church, an opportunity to be involved in the work of the church through committees, and a pledge card. New members are encouraged to become active in the life of the church. |
